2010 Mid City West Community
Council Election Information

The 2010 Election for the Board of Directors of the Mid City West Community Council will take place on
Thursday May 13, 2010, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
in the lobby of the Westside Jewish Community Center. (See directions and map, below.)

Voters must be at least 16 years old and be stakeholders in the Mid City West Community Council.  A stakeholder is someone who lives, works, owns property, or declares a stake within the MCWCC boundaries and affirms a factual basis for it.  Voters for Zone Representatives must be residents of that Zone.

Voters in the MCWCC election DO NOT have to be registered voters, as in other  local, state and national elections.  The only requirements for this election are those listed above.

As of this time, availability of Vote By Mail will be very limited, primarily to those with disabilities that prevent going to the polling place.

- The MCWCC has 45 Board seats. All 45 are elected.
- Stakeholders will use Self-Affirmation as a means of establishing their stakeholder status.
- Minimum stakeholder voting age is 16.
- The MCWCC has seven (7) Residential Zones.
- The MCWCC Board has a two-year term.
- Candidates can run for no more than one Board seat.
- Factual basis stakeholders can only be issued the MCWCC Ballot.
- Except for the Zone Representatives, factual basis candidates can run in any of the MCWCC seats.

Office of the City Clerk – Election Division

II. THE ELECTION

A. The election will be a Prepared Ballot Election. In this election, candidates shall file prior to Election Day and will then be included on a printed ballot that is distributed to the voters on Election Day.

B. Proxy voting will not be allowed for this election.

C. Voters may cast their ballots on the following date, time and location:
Thursday, May 13, 2010 – 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Westside Jewish Community Center: Lobby
5870 W. Olympic Blvd.
Los Angeles CA 90036

D. The polling location for the election is in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

E. If a disabled voter is unable to access the polling location, curbside voting will be provided as an option for that individual. On Election Day, voters can request curbside voting by calling the Election Division office at (213) 978-0444 or (888) 873-1000.

F. Voters who physically are unable to vote at the polling location due to a disability will be offered a Vote-By-Mail (VBM) ballot. Voters requesting to vote by mail must affirm under penalty of perjury that they meet the aforementioned requirements.

The City Clerk Election Division has posted their Certified List of Candidates.  These candidates will be listed on the ballot. 

Additional candidates may file for write-in status, though they will not be listed on the ballot.  A link to the list of write-in candidates will be added here when released by the City Clerk Election Division some time after the close of write-in filing on April 13th.

Certified candidates have also been added to the List of Mid City West Community Council Board of Directors seats.




The Westside Jewish Community Center (WJCC) is located on the south side of Olympic Blvd. several blocks east of the Olympic Blvd. / Fairfax Blvd. / San Vicente Blvd. intersection, and just east of the Olympia Medical Center.  The lobby is in the front area of the building on Olympic Blvd.

Parking:

Metered street parking is available on Olympic Blvd. during some hours.  Do not park on Olympic Blvd. between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. due to rush hour tow-away restrictions.  If parking on other nearby streets, watch for permit parking restrictions.

Free parking is available in the WJCC parking lot, located behind the building and accessed from San Vicente Blvd. at the rear of the property. 
Directions to WJCC parking:  Proceed west-bound on San Vicente Blvd. in the separate outer lanes parallel to the through lanes.  You can enter these lanes at Curson Ave.  Drive past Stanley Ave., and watch for the sign just before Olympia Medical Center.
